Most of you know that recently PMI® announced that PMP® Examination is getting changed from 26 Mar 2018 as according to PMBOK® Guide 6th Edition.
I received series of questions from aspirants of PMP® Certification on this examination change. Here I consolidated as many questions as possible and answers to those questions.
I have not attended PMP training so far. Should I attend immediately and take examination before 26th Mar?
It is not mandatory to take examination before 26th Mar. Answer for the question ‘When to take exam’ is up to you and your career aspirations. If your career goal demands you to get certified, then plan your exam date accordingly.
If you plan to take exam before 26th Mar, then attend training on PMBOK® Guide 5th edition otherwise attend on PMBOK® Guide 6th edition.
I have already attended PMP training on PMBOK® Guide 5th edition. Should I attend training again on PMBOK® Guide 6th edition if I want to appear for examination after 26th Mar?
No. It is not required for you to attend training again on PMBOK® Guide 6th edition for your application purpose. Certificate of training you attended earlier holds good for your PMP application.
However, you may want to attend training on 6th edition to understand differences or to consider it as a refresher course. It is totally your personal preference.
I am an active PMP credential holder. Should I attend training or appear for examination again on PMBOK® Guide 6th edition after 26th Mar?
No. It is not required for you to appear for examination again and not required to attend training again on PMBOK® Guide 6th edition. I would recommend you read PMBOK® Guide 6th edition once, to understand changes introduced. You can also undergo webinars or videos or material that helps you understand the changes. If you are membership is active you can download PMBOK® Guide 6th edition from PMI website.
I am planning to attend training on PMBOK® Guide 6th edition in January. If preparation goes well, can I take examination on PMBOK® Guide 6th edition before 26th Mar?
No. Examination will be changed to PMBOK® Guide 6th edition from 26th Mar. Before 26th Mar examination will be based on PMBOK® Guide 5th edition only.
I have recently attended PMP training on PMBOK® Guide 5th edition. Planning to take examination in 2nd week of February. What if I am failing in that exam and want to take the second attempt in April?
Your first attempt will be on PMBOK® Guide 5th edition and your second attempt on 6th edition. So, you will have to prepare accordingly.
